Prerna Malaney
Principal Investigator
Prerna received her Bachelor of Pharmacy from the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai, India. She then moved to the University of South Florida to pursue her Ph.D. in Medical Sciences. She completed her postdoctoral training at MD Anderson Cancer Center and started her own lab at Dartmouth in March 2023. The Malaney Lab seeks to identify and harness therapeutic vulnerabilities in tumor suppressor and oncogenic pathways in malignancies. Specifically, the lab investigates the role of RNA-binding proteins and RNA processing in maintaining cellular homeostasis and how these processes go awry in cancer to establish a fundamental basis for therapeutic enquiry. In addition to her research program, Prerna is highly invested in mentoring the future generation of scientists. Outside the lab, Prerna enjoys crafting, yoga, taking walks, cooking, and trying new cuisines.

John Zientko
Graduate Student
John received his Bachelor’s in Biochemistry from Central Michigan University and his Master’s in Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan. Now in Dartmouth’s Cancer Biology program, John joined the Malaney Lab in 2023 and researches the role of RNA-binding proteins in ribosome biogenesis and translation. Outside of lab, he enjoys running ultramarathons, reading, and playing chess.

Paige Blinkiewicz
Graduate Student
Paige received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Latin from Western Michigan University. She then went on to receive her Master of Science in Biological Science from Western Michigan University. In the Malaney Lab, she studies RNA-binding protein mutations in cancer. In her free time, she enjoys crossfit, walking her dog Stella, and trying different kinds of food.
-
Teddy Smith
Undergraduate Student
Teddy is a senior at Dartmouth College studying biology and history. In the Malaney Lab, Teddy is researching the mitochondrial ribosome, a poorly understood complex that has implications in a wide variety of disease, including cancer. She is particularly interested in protein-protein and protein-RNA interactions within this complex and their impact on the proper functioning of the mitochondria. Outside of the lab, Teddy serves as a lead manager at the Collis Center, a student manager for the Dartmouth College Fund, and a mentor for the Dartmouth Undergraduate Biology Society. She also enjoys horseback riding, reading, and learning languages!

Nicole Blackwood
Research Assistant
Nicole received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from The University of Vermont. After graduating, she spent two years working in oncology clinical trial research at Johns Hopkins University. Nicole has now joined Dr. Prerna Malaney’s lab where she is interested in pursuing research studying molecular mechanisms of cancer. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and spending time with her 3 cats.
